How To Make No Sew Pillow Covers
Why No Sew Pillow Covers
I have met several makers lately that do not own a sewing machine and they felt that making a pillow cover was out of their reach as hand-sewing would be too onerous! This made me think about how you can make so many things without a sewing machine. If you think it is a lot more work, you are not thinking in the right direction. No Sew Pillow Covers are actually easier to put together than sewing them.
What You Need to Start
There are not many things you need to do a No Sew Pillow Cover Project. You can add items to the list as you need but these are the basics:
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Painters Tape (or
other tape that is easy to remove from fabric - Crochet Hook or you can bend a paper clip to mimic a crochet hook
- Fabric large enough to cover your pillow insert

Up-Cycle
This project is so amazing that you can up-cycle almost anything. I have used old sweaters, shirts, jeans, and curtains to make pillow covers. Although I have used a sewing machine on some of the projects, I find that it is so easy to do the no-sew projects.
Look through your closet and maybe ask a friend or two if they have old clothing you could use to make a no-sew pillow cover. These pillow-covers actually make great gifts – imagine a friend who gave you the fabric gets a no-sew pillow cover from you!
Up-cycling is so important and one of the things that is dear to my heart. I have volunteered with my Rotary Club to go to clothing stores and ask for their returns (which they cannot resell). I most often fix the tears, replace the zippers, and often make other pieces of clothing from those donations. I, then in turn, donate a lot of the fixed clothing to a non-profit so they can resell the items. It is so rewarding and I am helping to keep returns out of the dump at the same time. Enough on this but you get my drift.

Reading Resources
As always, I have hand-picked some reading resources so you can further your skills at creating no-sew projects. These books not only go over no-sew pillow covers, they include many other projects. I must admit, I have only tried very few no-sew projects and am looking forward to seeing what I can create in the future.
