Have you ever wondered how to use Subtract and make sure what you have created is just one layer?

Sometimes we all need to learn something new. We are now reviving our Tuesday Tips newsletter. Each week you will get a new tip for Cricut Crafting so you can use it right away.

Here is what you can do:

  1. Create your shapes on the Canvas
  2. Make sure the back layer is larger than the others as this is the layer everything will be subtracted from
  3. Select Combine then Subtract

Take a look at the layers panel and you will see all the pieces that have been subtracted. Each of these pieces can be duplicated and used on their own or as the subtracted object.

If you want your new design to act as one object (you will be able to Contour and do other operations once the layers are merged). Once you merge the layers, you will no longer have access to the original shapes. I usually make a copy of objects before trying things out.

Now you have a new object you can work with!
